Tales from Spain

Tales from Spain is a symphonic suite consisting of four emblematic episodes from Spanish cultural imagery, exploring the historical and mythical roots of these stories that have endured through the centuries.

1. Camino de Santiago
The work begins with a solemn and melodic movement, inspired by the mystique of the Camino de Santiago. The section develops a crescendo theme full of hope and spirituality, representing the triumphal arrival at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
2. Suspiros de Boabdil
In this movement, the music is filled with melancholy and arabesques that recall the fall of Granada in 1492 and the farewell of the last Nasrid king, Boabdil, as he leaves his kingdom.
3. La Dama de Elche
A mysterious and enigmatic movement that pays homage to the famous Iberian sculpture. The music stands out for its sonorous passages full of emotion, mystery and divinity.
4. Sant Jordi y el Dragón
It tells the epic and vibrant tale of the legend of Saint George, the holy knight who defeated the dragon to save the princess and her people. At the place where the dragon fell, a rosebush of red flowers sprouted, symbolising life and sacrifice. It opens with a menacing introduction depicting the dragon, with dark chords and thunderous percussion. As the hero’s theme emerges, the music takes on a martial and victorious character, culminating in a brilliant and triumphant finale that celebrates bravery and the triumph of good over evil.

Leyendas de España es una suite sinfónica que consta de cuatro episodios emblemáticos del imaginario cultural español, explorando las raíces históricas y míticas de estas historias que han perdurado a lo largo de los siglos.

1. Camino de Santiago
La obra comienza con un movimiento solemne y melódico, inspirado en la mística del Camino de Santiago. La sección desarrolla un tema in crescendo lleno de esperanza y espiritualidad, representando la llegada triunfal a la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela.
2. Suspiros de Boabdil
En este movimiento, la música se llena de melancolía y arabescos que rememoran la caída de Granada en 1492 y la despedida del último rey nazarí, Boabdil, al abandonar su reino.
3. La Dama de Elche
Movimiento misterioso y enigmático que rinde homenaje a la famosa escultura ibérica. La música destaca por tener pasajes sonoros llenos emotividad, misterio y divinidad.
4. Sant Jordi y el Dragón
Narra el relato épico y vibrante de la leyenda de San Jorge, el santo caballero que venció al dragón para salvar a la princesa y su pueblo. En el lugar donde cayó el dragón, brotó un rosal de flores rojas, simbolizando la vida y el sacrificio. Se abre con una introducción amenazante que representa al dragón, con acordes oscuros y percusión estruendosa. A medida que el tema del héroe emerge, la música toma un carácter marcial y victorioso, culminando en un final brillante y triunfal que celebra la valentía y el triunfo del bien sobre el mal.
